Just stumbled on this...and much of this is correct. But it's WAY off mark in many ways too. You don't need all these various foods to sustain life. If that's all your trying to do is live, breath, and walk around...it works great! But if you want to gain strength, muscle mass, or heck...just enjoy the ONLY LIFE YOU HAVE...you simply eat in moderation. Don't engorge yourself like many do...eat some of everything. The key is moderation and exercise.

You don't have to starve yourself and engulf your lifes focus on eating nuts and berries. That's just rediculous...most people have lives to live.

But hey, if it's all you got..it's all you got. Have fun with that.

Healthy Runner.

I read with interest your post. I recently completed a five-day Vision Quest, where I fasted for five days with only a pint of water per day. Like you, I had never fasted before. In fact, I don't remember a day in my life that I hadn't had something to eat.

By the end of the quest, my psoriasis was nearly healed, my head was as clear as it's ever been, and although I was weak, I felt cleansed and whole. After the third day, I wasn't even hungry. Bodies are very resilient and learn to adapt to even the most dire conditions.

I recently discovered I am gluten intolerant, and I've eaten organically for 20 years (I live in Portland, Oregon, where organics are readily available in grocery stores). Although I am not a vegetarian, I eat with mindfulness.

Beyond how much clarity I had by not eating, I was also given a clear sense of what many are experiencing involuntarily throughout this world: no food at all. I knew at the end of the Quest, that I would have a meal ready for me. I got a first-hand view of what it means to not be able to eat.

I agree that everyone's body is different, and what works for some might not be in the best interest for others. What I also see is that sometimes it's valuable to see what you don't have/need to clearly understand what you do have.

The final thing I experienced was a deeper sense of gratitude for everything in my life, including all the delicious foods I've eaten over the years. During the Quest I stayed in an area roughly six foot by 10 foot in size, on a high-desert plateau (very hot days; very cold nights). My Shaman came to check on me everyday, but otherwise, I was alone with my thoughts and my journal.

When I first came off the hill, I swore I would never do anything like that again! Three weeks later, I relish the idea of being there again. Going without with careful planning is a very empowering thing to do. And the sense of clarity was amazing. Now, in the busy world again, the stillness of the desert was a gift.

And yes, I found the answers I was looking for. Nothing like a good cleansing to become clear.

Hello David
Sorry to say I am not convinced or impressed with your extreme approach. Posting such an restrictive diet simply because you fasted for a few days and read a book does not make it law. Bodies are different and have individual needs. While it might have worked for you is great and I would be interested to know how long you continue.

It's worth considering that blood type may make a difference to how we react to "David's way of eating"...a blood type A might thrive and feel fabulous, whereas an O-type, who needs animal protein, might well feel weak...and the Bs can probably swim a little in both directions. That is...if the blood type diet is correct (and isn't there always someone criticizing a diet for one reason or another?)!
