join me in 3 months meditation
After 38 years I’ve decided to meditate.
10 minutes a day, for 3 months.
To see what happens.
To see what I gain. And what I lose.
My aim is to learn to enjoy nothing happening. To see what’s beneath all the bustle.
What’s your aim?
If you’ve ever thought of meditating, or just feel called to try something new – then join me.
We can support each other in this practice, and share our experiences along the way.
HOW TO JOIN
a) Declare it in the comments section below or use this quick link:
http://www.solutionbox.com/meditate
(Save this link)
b) Send a blank email to david38-195055@autocontactor.com so you’ll
get any relevant emails from me during the 3 months.
GUIDANCE
1) We started Monday Sep 11 2006, finishing Dec 11, 2006
2) Start today, whenever you have come.
3) I’m aiming for 20 minutes each morning, but with a minimum of 10. 10 is fine.
4) Put a calendar plainly visible on a wall. (I printed off September to December from Outlook). Tick off each day as you do it.
5) If you miss a day, make it up with two meditations the next day.
6) Post your commitment here on the blog, and share your experiences along the way.
[SAVE THIS LINK so you can come back regularly: www.solutionbox.com/meditate]
7) If you like, invite your friends to also join you and declare. It will be more fun, and you’ll have a greater support structure to see it through. Send them to www.solutionbox.com/meditate
Finally, here are the words that inspired me to start:
“Nothing should happen in meditation. Meditation teaches you to value what is! And not to desire what is not. It points you to Here and now, silence, peace and innocence (nature), towards life it self.
Start more and more enjoying the quiet and nothing happening!
Sit in meditation, for 10 or 20 minutes everyday. A good time is in the morning just before you get up: Sit up in the bed or in a chair for 10 or 20 minute in meditation. Close the eyes and do nothing, just allow the mind, the thoughts to be somewhere in the passive snoring there for a little while longer. And enjoy nothing happening!”

What are you waiting for? I’ve already started – 10 minutes this morning.
See you in nothing
David

Okay. It’s something that I’ve often thought about. It’s amazing how I never have 10 minutes to spare in a 24 hour day. I’m committed.
September 11th, 2006 at 2:39 pm
I already do a sound meditation for an hour every day. It does make a difference.
September 11th, 2006 at 2:40 pm
I’m happy to join you in this David, and will in fact invite the 2300 members of my Web site http://TotalLifeSuccess.com to join us.
You hit the nail on the head for me David, as I’ve been thinking about resuming my habit of meditation for some time. It’s always more fun doing something as a group so this will be a great support.
Great idea!
September 11th, 2006 at 2:42 pm
I already chant for at least 30 minutes a day. I chant Nam myoho renge kyo. It is my way of aligning myself with the universal life force. It does work. Clarity, wisdom and an alignment to the mystic law of the universe means you are in the right place at the right time.
September 11th, 2006 at 2:45 pm
I’m with you. I can’t wait to see the results.
September 11th, 2006 at 2:46 pm
I am a meditator from way back but as No One is really alone I am delighted to add 10 minutes to it and join you, David, and the others.

Good idea!!!
I’ll do it
September 11th, 2006 at 2:48 pm
Ok, great. I’ll sign up. Now. Today. I do better with external support these days, to form new habits, this is wonderful!!!
thanks David Wood…
September 11th, 2006 at 2:49 pm
I’m ready! I have felt the power of mediation in the past, but haven’t practiced with intention in a long time. Thanks for the opportunity!
September 11th, 2006 at 2:50 pm
Well I do have a concern about the effects of nothingness across different time zones but otherwise it seems a good way to start the day. I’ll give it a try
September 11th, 2006 at 2:51 pm
I’m a pm meditator and have been trying to work up from 5 to 10 minutes. I’m committed to 10. Any words of wisdom as to how to ignore the chatter?
September 11th, 2006 at 2:51 pm
Hi David
I’ve just read your email – I’m IN. Its already the 12th here (NZ)but I can catch up… I’m 50 this year and I have made it a year of challenges. As I am only half way through my life! I’ve taken up Bikram Yoga a moving meditation. But the challenge of completely emptying the mind is what I am ready to take on. I have 50 years of chattering to eradicate!!
Thanks for the invite to join David.
Warm wishes Jane
September 11th, 2006 at 2:52 pm
Thanks. I meditate daily whenever I can fit it in. It will be interesting to see if there’s any difference doing it at awakening each day. I received this late, so will do one tonight before the descent into slumber.

Great idea to join with a community of folks in meditation. I already meditate morning and night al least 10 minutes or more and will feel even more on purpose with a community on purpose…
September 11th, 2006 at 2:53 pm
i’ll do it.
September 11th, 2006 at 2:55 pm
Thanks for this powerful reminder David. There is such power in Stillness. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the fundamental qualities of Positively Attractive people…a deep inner stillness and connection to a source of greater power. I’ll play with you and ask all of my positivelyattractive.com subscribers to do the same!
September 11th, 2006 at 2:55 pm
I do meditation three times a week during Tai Chi and have discovered it’s value. I will now commit to 10 minutes a day.

I am committed.
A little bit of advice – if you feel your mind start to wonder off – focus on feeling your body from the inside. You may have to refocus many times – don’t judge it just keep putting your focus back in your body

September 11th, 2006 at 2:57 pm
Hi David (your name means Beloved)
I have been meditating and chanting for years…so I will add 10-20 minutes to my daily routine..and such fun to be with a group..Dr.Sues…
September 11th, 2006 at 2:58 pm
I’ll join too! Tonight I hit the ol’ meditation cushion. Thanks for a wonderful idea.
September 11th, 2006 at 2:59 pm
What a wonderful way to motivate people! I’ve just started doing this myself and it is amazing how powerful just a short amount of time meditating can impact our creativity and clarity. Thank you for this challenge… it will help keep me focussed and on task – no slacking when we’re all in this together

I’ve been trying to meditate every day for the past year, but often failed. This will help keep me to a regular practice, and I look forward to sharing everyone’s comments on the results of regular meditation on their lives.

Interesting concept of multiple minds meditating with the same intent – to create quiet. I`ll try it. Toronto

OK David, I have wanted to do this for too many years – talk about it all the time – and we know what talk without action is worth – so – I am committed!!! Yikes!!!
September 11th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
You can count me in, thanks
September 11th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
Hi. I’ve meditated off (mostly off) and on for 35 years. I find these things helpful:
1. Set a timer. Then, if you doze off, you’ll still be on time for work.
2. Focus on a nonsense syllable. I was given a “mantra” which is two syllables and two notes. Saying that faster and faster puts me in deep meditation. It also blocks out the “mind chatter.”
3. When your mind is chattering, be gentle with yourself. Just go back to your mantra. Treat your mind (ego) like the little child that it is.
4. If you are extra tired, meditation can actually be a good substitute for sleep. I take a 20 minute meditation if I have only slept 5 hours or less.
5. Choose a position that is comfortable and block out this time just for you. Delightful!
September 11th, 2006 at 3:07 pm
I’ve been informally meditating for a while now, but this gives me something concrete to connect to, so I’m in.
I’ll be focusing on the Law of Abundance.

Thought about trying this a long time but I never seem to fit it in my schedule… Maybe this could help me do it. 10 minutes a day as a start should not be impossible. I will try.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:10 pm
A great idea, I started meditating two days ago and so will join your group for support – thanks. 20 mins morning and night and I will add another 10.
Peace from NZ
Deb
September 11th, 2006 at 3:10 pm
I’m committed too!
September 11th, 2006 at 3:10 pm
This is a great idea. Makes me feel more of the group. I already meditate but do not have a group to meditate with. Sangha is important too.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:10 pm
This will kick start me into doing what I have been advised to do for ages. To slow my mind down, to quiet it. I start by just concentrating on my breath, inhale, hold for 5 seconds, exhale, hold for 5 seconds…good place to start.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:11 pm
Count me in. 10 minutes out of a whole 24 hrs a day is miniscule and achievable.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:11 pm
sure! can’t wait.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:12 pm
thanks David for the impetus. I haven’t been meditating consistantly and this will help me recommit… a little
“nothingness” willl be awesome, especially with the new direction my life is taking(grad school).
all the talk about chanting seems like a good addition too. Will pull out my chanting cds and add them to my time.
blessings all…

How about we meditate in the context that all who are meditating here declare in the beginning of each mediation that is to the prosperity to ourselves (the meditator) and all who are meditating with us on this blog. And on December 11th see if we as a whole experience greater prosperity during this period? Wouldn’t that be an interesting experiment on the collective consciousness? I will start today declaring additional prosperity for all of you and myself. Robert Bohen

I have been meditaing for years, I can join you for sure, I do it everyday, (7 days a week, unless I saved a life that day, I give myself 30 minutes of metime
so I guess that means I was with you in spirit already.
In my understanding, meditaion isn’t about becoming nothing, it’s resisting the urge to run away from everything that comes up in the act of standing still (or sitting, whatever works for you) while still moving forward, from the inside…out. I practice letting my thoughts run, letting the chatter come up, letting the worry come up, letting all the human ego come up, and sit still with it…let it rise so that I can choose to interact with my NOW, by resisting the urge to stop, and do somethingelse, because it’s not always comfortable to let it go, let it run wild in the brain pan… I think of it as my moment of silence, letting go of my human need for resistence to the eternal flow of truth and reality.
So I don’t try to stop the chatter that is what we do in daily life, avoid the chatter of the world, what I do is relax INTO the stress, lean into what is, so that I may become what I need/want to be for the day. Yes, it’s very much like hitting the reset button on the old human computer…I’m in!
Here’s to a nothingness that is all encompassing!

September 11th, 2006 at 3:18 pm
Thank you for inviting! I will join all of you every day for 20 minutes.
To get to a more centered and less mindshatter place in the Now, just listen to your heartbeat… Feel how it beats in your chest. Then move to your head with your attention and take your time to be aware of your heartbeat. Then move on to your stomach. Keep getting more and more aware of your heartbeat all over your body. Be one with your heart and notice that your not alone and you are a connected living being. All is one. Equal in the silence.. No mindshatter around! I just love it!!
September 11th, 2006 at 3:18 pm
Hmmm … seems like good timing … I’ve been looking for some easy silence and I’m in the midst of big life changes. Maybe some peaceful and unfocused quiet will help me focus on what needs to be done. I’m in … will start this evening. Thanks for the “invite”. L.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:19 pm
Great idea, David. I have meditated on and off for about 10 years now — weaving it in and out with different spiritual practices. It feels like a really good thing to start this today. I just saw your email this afternoon (NYC time) and have an event to go to this evening, but will start before I go to bed. Will let you know if nothing happens! :=)
September 11th, 2006 at 3:21 pm

I’m in. I’ve taken a vacation from meditation for too long (a little resistant??). Thanks for getting this going.
September 11th, 2006 at 3:32 pm
To master anything what is required is spaced repetition and immersion. Meditation is no exception, and I recommend to youself David and everyone else is a meditation retreat for total immersion. The most enjoyable one I went on was a ten day vipassana retreat in Thailand, were I clocked up over 100 hours of meditation in 10 days, with a strict code of silence. leaps and bounds can be made in these 10 days and it is the cheapest holiday you will ever go on!
two tips from me is concentrate on the breath and dont even try and stop the chatter of the mind as that will drive you crazy!
Just dissacociate yourself from the thoughts and become a silent witness to them. beyourpotential.biz

Hi David, Thank you for your invitation to meditate for 20 minutes each day. It comes at a no better time, I have done meditation on/off for years but never made a real commitment, today I will. My mother died on Saturday (9th) and today (11th) I am at the ‘guilt’ stage of grieving, what a wonderful day to begin something so personal and deep. I will take 20 mins and meditate this evening, then 10mins each morning and 10 each night. I look forward to be part of this ‘thought’ful group

I did it! It was hard to be still but I did it! At first I noticed how much my dog barks at the people walking by.
I was wishing he would be still with me and then he did. We both feel asleep and now I feel like I have more energy. He followed me into the office and is now sleeping under my chair. I guess he needs more than 20 min.
Thanks- Sheila Barker

I have been putting this off for a while – so its about time I made it important and do it!
September 11th, 2006 at 4:34 pm
I am joining all the way from Gib and have got 3 of my friends to join in. We have been meditating once a week for 45 minutes since last year so we will do it daily instead
September 11th, 2006 at 4:50 pm
Funny how just lsat night I was reading that meditation helps with lucid dreaming. Before the kids, I used to meditate twice daily.
Well I’m in, David.
Thanks for the nudge
September 11th, 2006 at 4:58 pm
When I meditate it is on something – not nothing. The bible gives me God’s word. To clear the mind is to open oneself to the wrong spiritual forces.
September 11th, 2006 at 4:58 pm
Awesome idea and thanks for the invite! Not sure why I don’t do this anymore as when I did, incredible things seemed to happen. Good luck to all!
September 11th, 2006 at 5:00 pm
I’ve been saying I’m going to meditate now for years and it just took you to get me going. I’m going to commit to 20 minutes a day. Thanks!
September 11th, 2006 at 5:05 pm
I’ve been told to meditate, I know people who meditate and I have yet to truly try meditate!
I usually delete these emails, never unsubscribing. I opened this and my mind is open to this and everything else that I haven’t been doing.
I am in!
September 11th, 2006 at 5:06 pm
I will do 21 mins a day. Lets make it a habit.
September 11th, 2006 at 5:07 pm
I am going to do 21 mins X 90 in 90 days. That will give me flexibility to skip one day and do two times in the next day (instead of 21 mins per day).
Have a wonderful day.
September 11th, 2006 at 5:13 pm

I’m in! I’m getting ready for my masters in corporate coaching residential weekend starting on Friday, and this seems an apposite time to start something I haven’t done regularly since my teens!
By the way, something else that is so delightful and insightful and liberating that for me it is my own whirling dervish experience, and which I tried for the first time this weekend, is BIODANZA, a sort of personal development for the body’s self-expression, creativity, and health. Ask me for more information if you’re interested.

Another kiwi jumping on the bandwagon on the 12th! We’re one day ahead, so hopefully I won’t get left behind in it all. I’ve always been curious about meditation so this is a great place to start. Fab idea!

September 11th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
I’ve meditated for most of my life. As a matter of fact I introduced my kids to it to help them through their teenage years (my youngest is 13 and has started regular meditation this year). In those angst-riddled teen years centering is very important I think. Seems to eliviate some of the stresses our kids go through and interestingly enough it has been a great conversation starter. After meditation my boys are able (and more willing) to discuss some of the issues they’re struggling with.
Anyway, meditation is something I bring to my coaching practice when I work with parents and teens. Has been a great success for my clients over the last 15 years

I’m in! I have meditated in the past and for some reason dropped it during some difficult times, times when I needed it the most. Thanks for the nudge.

Honest question… WHY?
September 11th, 2006 at 6:22 pm
I will give it a go. I have tried meditating in the past, on and off, but found nothing I noticed. I will be observant abount changes and it will be good to compare with others.
September 11th, 2006 at 6:23 pm
Yes I like the idea of doing this as a group. Apparrently if 1% of the population meditate, it reduces crime rates and has other positive affects on society.
I am going to try meditating in bed before I get up.
September 11th, 2006 at 6:32 pm
Awesome plan David! I have a prayer/meditation practice that I’ve observed for years… It has benefitted me in wonderful ways. I will continue to meditate at least 10 min/day with you! Hoping you find peace & joy in your practice!

MIND CHATTER
Great questions Dawn-Marie…I like Akasha’s suggestion of feeling the body on the inside. Also I believe that’s why many focus on breath.
And I recommend everyone read hmbt’s post above. In fact I’ll repost a slice here:
“In my understanding, meditation isn’t about becoming nothing, it’s resisting the urge to run away from everything that comes up in the act of standing still (or sitting, whatever works for you) while still moving forward, from the inside…out. I practice letting my thoughts run, letting the chatter come up, letting the worry come up, letting all the human ego come up, and sit still with it…let it rise so that I can choose to interact with my NOW, by resisting the urge to stop, and do somethingelse, because it’s not always comfortable to let it go, let it run wild in the brain pan… I think of it as my moment of silence, letting go of my human need for resistence to the eternal flow of truth and reality.”
SANDRA
That’s funny
VIPASSANA
Good tip Matthew – perhaps I’m working up to doing Vipassana. Developing my training wheels
COMMUNITY
See what happens?
I LOVE knowing there will be a couple of hundred people joining in this each day. I think you’ll all smile when you hear my impulse to invite you all to join arose during my first 10 minutes of meditation this morning
MARYGM
I feel you.
RESULTS
Thanks for sharing Sheila – that’s fun to hear experiences already – you’re the first!
THE BIBLE
Hopefully not my already existing idea of what is or what is good.
Someone wrote: “The bible gives me God’s word. To clear the mind is to open oneself to the wrong spiritual forces”. Boy, that’s waiving a red flag at a bull. I feel drawn to open myself to what ‘is’. Whatever that means
IF YOU’RE BEHIND…
There is no behind. You start when you start. Whether it’s September 11 or December 10. Join our journey into nothing, and into everything (did I mention I write fortune cookies for a living?)
Love David
September 11th, 2006 at 6:37 pm
thank you David. This has arrived with synchronistic timing! I commit.
September 11th, 2006 at 6:49 pm
I will start with 10 minutes, and choose to use the meditation as a time of connecting to the Life Force of the Universe
September 11th, 2006 at 6:51 pm

I have been thinking of doing this for a long time but my thoughts were never put into action. Time for action.
Thanks David, I’ll start tonight.
September 11th, 2006 at 6:53 pm
My meditations are usually walking contemplations in the woods and this summer I have not been into the woods very often, so this is a wonderful opportunity for my to go within in a different manner. Thank you

Hi guys,
Here’s a pic of my support structure on my notice board….so I can tick off each day.
Notice board pic
Note the one big tick! October, November and December are pinned right behind September.
My intention is actually to meditate upon waking and before sleeping – so there is room for two ticks. But my commitment/promise is once a day, the rest is bonus.

Ok I’m now a blogger and I am ready for “3 months meditation”!!! I do meditaite now but this seems like a great idea, so let’s hang out and see what doesn’t happen.

Question: “What do you hope to accomplish in meditation?”
Answer: “I hope to accomplish nothing.”

September 11th, 2006 at 7:02 pm
Hi David, Thanks. It’s a great idea.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:05 pm
David–I’ve been meditating for 32 years (since I was 21, now am 53) and the quality of life is such that I never understood why everyone doesn’t just do it. My only advise is that one should learn a particular method that has regularity, otherwise people won’t just do it because of your kind suggestion. Meditation is very, very powerful if folks would only do it. Thanks for being so right on target. Brian Fradet
September 11th, 2006 at 7:17 pm
I used to meditate. I loved it and it made a huge difference in my attitude toward the day as well as specific events. The nothing helped me realize that not getting what you want may be the best thing you ever get. I’m thrilled to renew my committment – I’m in.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:17 pm
What a WONDERFUL IDEA
I have been meditating, my space is in the morning and evening shower. People tend to leave me alone in the shower. THis really works. Thanks for the group work.

September 11th, 2006 at 7:27 pm
I love this idea and will jump in for 10 minutes a day!
Hopefully, my fiancee will join me!
September 11th, 2006 at 7:30 pm

I don’t get it. Tried it before. I’ll try again.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:35 pm
Going to try it tonight. Always wanted to try meditation….this is the push I needed. Will let you know how it goes.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:36 pm
I will try but first I need to know how to meditate. Is it the same as praying or how do I do it??
September 11th, 2006 at 7:36 pm
It sounds like everyone but me has tried this practice. I am looking forward to mornings for the first time.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:40 pm
Ok, will do
September 11th, 2006 at 7:43 pm
Good idea David. I’ll do it. Intention is so much powerful with the strength of a group.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:44 pm
I’m joining you David. I took a hot air balloon ride this morning and it was so quiet and peaceful at 7200 ft above the Earth! I want to experience more of that centeredness in my life. (If you’re ever in Arizona: http://www.hotairexpeditions.com)
It has been a while since I had a daily meditation practice and I’m looking forward to the experience.
I recommend the websites http://www.wildmind.org for posture tips.

September 11th, 2006 at 7:46 pm
I’ll try it.
September 11th, 2006 at 7:54 pm
Hi David,
Great timing! I just made a commitment yesterday to resume a 10 minute daily meditation practice, but I didn’t design any accountability. And now this! Serendipity!
September 11th, 2006 at 7:56 pm
Hi David and other meditators. Funny how the Universe will provide exactly what you need exactly when you need it! I’m in!
September 11th, 2006 at 7:57 pm
Yes David and everyone,
I recall five years ago a friend saying business/corporations have no soul.
I’ve finished my MBA and now that I’ve invested in me. It is time to invest in people.

Thanks every one,

September 11th, 2006 at 8:04 pm
thanks for the invite, it will be interesting to try doing this in a group, sharing our experiences. I have tried meditating a little off and on, but never noticed any great effects, maybe being consistent, and having others to share with will make a difference. I will join you for 3 months and see what happens..

I am afraid of commitment, but I willing to give this one a try!
September 11th, 2006 at 8:14 pm
Hi David,
Being Christian, I know you’ll be ok with the fact that I don’t subscribe to Eastern Religions. I just have no reason to give up on my best friend Jesus. I must use my 20 minutes in prayer. I enjoy time with my Lord and it’s the least I can do for Him since he gave His life for me.
September 11th, 2006 at 8:19 pm
Thanks to one of your email links, David, I am already meditating for an hour a day. Good luck.
September 11th, 2006 at 8:28 pm
Hi David
I have sometimes use meditation to help me get into sleep but have not try out the type you suggested. I am glad to join in you group for 3 months and I will spend at least 10 minutes everyday on it. I have just reached 52 last month and I am staying healthy for the pass one year by drinking about 1.2 litres of water every morning(at least 1 hour breakfast). My aim is to continue staying as healthy as I am now.
Thanks for inviting me.

Wonderful idea!!!! THANK YOU!

perfect excuse (do i really need one) to get back to it. Hi to all, I look forward to sharing this with those of you that participate.
September 11th, 2006 at 8:50 pm

So much pointing to me resuming meditation. Met a lady on eharmony who meditates, I just started back prior to this message. Seems the universe is giving out information.

I have thought of starting meditation for a while…
I am in!
Let’s see what will happen and what will not.
Thanks for initiating…

Hi David,
I’ve been intending to meditate for so long now, so your invitation is just what I need to just START DOING it everyday. It is late evening (10:20 PM) on Monday, September 11th and I will begin now and do a double tomorrow. Thank You for this nudge.

I am commited to 10 minutes a day! Just had another invitation at a Peace Rally I went to this past Saturday (www.ricopeacegarden.org)!
September 11th, 2006 at 9:50 pm
I recall as a child, my mother meditating in the morning & doing her exercises or yoga. We would all wake up & watch, or do it with her.
She taught us all how to respect ourselves & others & treasure the bodies we have. To a degree we have all maintained that, whenever we slip, we call upon what we have learnt & practise again.
I have found over the last few years people with all forms of meditation, but thay all have the same affect, to be at peace/or centred with oneself.
It is great that you are all doing it. The benefits, no matter how great or small, are benfeits. Some notice right away, others take sometime, so just enjoy the journey.
See you all there!
Cheers!
September 11th, 2006 at 9:50 pm
Great idea David!
Count me in! Interestingly, I actually do this already.

David, you were reading my mind. I’ve never really meditated so, I have no clue what I am going to do. However, that’s never stopped me in the past. I’m with you…minimum of 10 mins/day, shooting for 20! I’ve heard of the chat “nam myoho renge kyo,” just don’t recall from where. I like that too. Thanks for the invite. Blessings to all.
September 11th, 2006 at 10:03 pm
I was interested about medication for a long time. Your email helped me get started.
Thanks

Thank you for the invitation to be in community of meditation. I’m honored to be a part of it.
September 11th, 2006 at 10:49 pm
i hope it would be able to change
September 11th, 2006 at 10:50 pm
I have been meditating on and off for 8 years. Nothing special just breathing, being still and quieting the mind. In the past, when life got hectic, I would stop. Well I always go back to it because it centers me and I feel like I can handle anything in my day. My life is always more peaceful and seems to flow when I am doing it consistently. I started back every morning 20-30 minutes in January 2006. It has made a huge difference. I even suggest it to clients.
September 11th, 2006 at 11:21 pm
I already do meditation daily as I am a Dominican sister and it is a part of my lifestyle. It is wonderful that you have discovered this jewel. I will certainly join you in this venture

Just started doing this one month ago.
Amazing results in stress reduction and clarity of life purpose.
September 12th, 2006 at 12:50 am
This is something most of us think about but realy set ourselves a target. To know that the meditation is being done within a “silent” community is a challenge to pull the greater energy together for all to gain from. Lets keep it going, not only for now but after Dec 11.
September 12th, 2006 at 1:12 am
As a ‘busy’ person, with a multi-faceted life and re-learning to give a little to myself occaissionally, I’ll be more than happy to participate in this lovely idea – meditation.
Yoga and meditation used to be part of my lifestyle. It’s a part I want to reclaim. Here goes….

Hi,
I have been meditating on and off for years. My aim is bring consistency to this practice. I keep it in my life from now on.
September 12th, 2006 at 6:42 am
Thanks for this wonderful opportunity David. I want 10-20 mins to explore stillness and my quiet mind! Its rare that I’m quiet so looking forward to seeing what happens!
September 12th, 2006 at 6:44 am
I have been meditating for an hour most mornings for about two years now. I use Bill Harris’s Holosync CDs (from Centerpointe) in my meditations.
In my experience it is not true that nothing happens during meditation. In fact the mind is very busy with incessant chatter during meditations. I have been advised to not try to stop this chatter but to just let it be OK. Fact is you cannot really stop the chatter. Instead you just focus on whatever comes into your mind as if you were an outside observer. In due course you will learn to just let them pass by and return to a still mind.
One more thing. During meditation your mind is very calm and your sub-consciuous is very receptive to affirmations and visualization. It is therefore a wonderful opportunity to affirm habit-changing desires and to visualize whatever you wish to create in your life.

Hi All
Just checking in, finished my morning meditation. I feel so calm and peaceful. It was helpful to remember all of you who have decided to join, otherwise I probably would have ‘forgot’ to meditate. Another small but amazing thing seemed to happen this morning. When I woke up I thought the house was empty, so I began my meditation without concern that I would be disturbed, but just as the 20 minutes came to an end and I opened my eyes, a family member came up the stairs. I was filled with gratitude and joy at that moment.
Thank You!
September 12th, 2006 at 7:29 am
Thank you !!!
I have been looking at ways that I can commit myself to doing something where I will personally benefit (easier said than done), this idea of doing this together really appeals to me..
I”m in on the journey, lets see where it takes us….
September 12th, 2006 at 7:59 am
Thanks David I will join you.
September 12th, 2006 at 8:23 am

It’s truly amazing what meditation can do for focus and happiness. A little advice from someone who has been meditating for years: try to focus on the natural inhalation and exhalation. each time your thoughts move outside, gently bring it back to your natural breath. We’ll do it together!

Hi! I am Sheila and I will start meditating today (with 2 meditations) since I just read your email today. I will do it faithfully until December 11, 2006.(by then it should be a habit! I hope so)! I will start with 10 mins and work my way up to 20 min.

My name is Shanna Sutton, and I am a life coach. I am in process of completing Accomplishment Coaching class through March 2007, and this last weekend, I made a declaration to my coaching buddy, Anne, that I was going to meditate every day. Then I jumped online and found this! So I’m in….open for possibility in WHAT IS. Thanks for creating this.

David, thank you for this little push to get me started again. I have meditated off and on (more off than on) for over 15 years. I know how beneficial it is. Usually it is a choice between getting sleep, which I never seem to get enough of, and meditating. Today I got up 10 minutes earlier to insert this short meditation into my morning routine. First, I emptied the dishwasher as part of my de-cluttering morning routine (see http://www.flylady.net) so I could wake up a little bit. One of the biggest problems I have with morning meditation is falling asleep because I am usually sacrificing sleep to do it. The meditation went very well. I used the Zazen technique of breath counting. I feel refreshed and energized. I am committed to sticking with it.
Good luck to you and everyone who has made this commitment to meditate.

Hi David,
You showed me the way to become a coach, thank you for that. The idea for a collective meditation is interesting. But you know it sounds easier then it is. As I learned at tps : “How” is a Quality; and most people don’t know anything about meditation. Most people stop meditating because their back hurts. Isn’t that a shame ? Most people I introduce to horseriding, need to find there balance first. It’s the same if you want to meditate.
September 12th, 2006 at 11:06 am
Hi David,
Congratulations on joining the world community of meditators. I am cetainly with you in spirit as you begin this venture. The first thing we learn is how noisy & busy our minds are – that they seem engaged in endless fantasies, worries, planning and just simple chatter. So don’t get discoraged by this. It is the same for everyone.

September 12th, 2006 at 11:31 am
Ok,
I am in, I need to get my time with the Lord. that’s the way I will be goin
September 12th, 2006 at 11:37 am
Know that as you meditate, it’s almost a certainty that someone else in our community here is meditating at the same time, somewhere around the world. About 230 of us now and growing fast.
I did a bonus one last night, and then the regular one this morning, and ticked my wall calendar again. Am averaging 15 minutes. 20 is starting to look quite easy. Last night I felt a deep peace and had images appear in my head as if dreaming, as when one approaches sleep – very pleasant.
This morning i sat up in bed as soon as I woke (was hard to do – I wanted to lie there and drift). Felt a little nameless anxiety, which I am simply being with.
Enjoying this process very much.

I was just at a spiritual class on Meditation. I said to myself, maybe if I just commit to a shorter period of time — and do it EVERY day. (I also use Holosync for an hour a day — and sometimes skip it due to time). Your email came at the EXACT RIGHT TIME.
Thank you David, Thank you Universe.
You asked us to sign in, so you would know us — I was unable to get it to work. I’m Jordan…
September 12th, 2006 at 11:49 am
Yes… I will start today and see how different I will feel in december (now I am a bit depressed going back to work after my holidays)
September 12th, 2006 at 11:51 am
I am going to make a switch. I will start meditation tonight and join the group. I regularly practice visualization upon waking up and going to bed. But when I have had the luxury to practice this in the middle of the day, it has proven to be the most productive time to form clear images in my mind. So this evennig I will try to clear the mind instead and see what happens…
September 12th, 2006 at 12:03 pm
Hi David,
It is a great idea. I will meditate with you from today on. Ahoj!!!!!!
September 12th, 2006 at 12:10 pm
Like I needed an excuse! Count me in. I’m late so I’ll just trip out of my normal routine twice today. Oops did I say I had a routine…NOT! Thanks for the invite David.

OMG! Just did a quick 24 minutes. You know just to catch up.. What a wonderful quiet time. In the middle of the day…oh me, oh my. I imagine this must be what the little one’s at day care get to experience during nap time. hmmm. I wonder if that is their version of meditation? I did use a CD from Awakened Minds, Inc. to get it done without distraction. Wow..three months of this, how delicious.

Hello David, I’d like to join in even if I’m a little late. But my question is whether to meditate before or after I write in my journal of a morning; I’m trying to achieve this stream of consciousness morning pages thing before I get up. I think I’ll meditate first.
It all makes for a busy morning – and that’s before getting out of bed! But worthwhile though.
September 12th, 2006 at 12:55 pm
Well, David and new friends…meditation mates,
I’ve started too. And it´s funny ´cause I live in Brazil and I feel you all sitting near one to each other in a kind of dimension, where we breathe together…inhale…exhale…

September 12th, 2006 at 12:59 pm
I have never meditated and am up for the challenge of turning the chatter off. I’m 47 and looking to make positive changes before I turn 50. A friend recently told me about meditation and that it works! I am committed. Thank you for your guidance David!
September 12th, 2006 at 1:00 pm
I think you should really understand what meditation really is. It’s more than quiet time… it’s a purely spiritual concept and practice that has been watered down by westerners. If you are going to get more than relaxation out of it, then at least suggest a spiritual thought/affirmation, a prayer/verse of one’s choosing, or a positive visualization for concentration each day. The mind is ALWAYS active, and it must be engaged or you will nod or go to sleep! At least this will be more of a helpful beginning. Otherwise, call it what is it, time for reflection, stress reduction, taking time to disconnect from the rat race!
September 12th, 2006 at 1:00 pm
This is a great step David! I have already been enjoying meditation although it hasn’t been on a steady basis …. you know how life seems to happen around good intentions?! Thank you for the perfect opportunity to get back in touch again. Just opened your email today (12th) but did have a short session last evening, so I think that keeps me on track with everyone. It will be great to hear feedback through out these 3 months as to how each person has benefited (or not). All the best to you all.
September 12th, 2006 at 1:05 pm
Have just started trying to meditate every day…so this will be really helpful knowing that we’re all at it!
I’m trying for 20 mins too!
September 12th, 2006 at 1:48 pm
Great idea! I join you today with an open mind, expecting a big positive difference in my life and well-being.
September 12th, 2006 at 1:55 pm
I’m in! I’ve been trying to meditate off and on for the past few weeks. I like the calendar idea so I’m going to tick mine each day and I’ll aim to do it each morning.

Yes- a very positive idea – to meditate in unison !Am joining from today.
September 12th, 2006 at 3:10 pm
You know, I put meditation off for too many years, but started to take it much more seriously when I learned that meditation has actually been scientifically proven to alter the pathways in your brain.
Pretty amazing, huh?

Thanks for the invitation. I commit to the daily practice.
I have meditated off and on for years, but after I became pregnant, I made the practice more of a focus. My baby is due in 5 days, and I’m eager to use what I’ve learned about my mind and body during her birth so I can bring her into the world in a peaceful and loving way.
September 12th, 2006 at 6:58 pm
Thanks David, Yes I will join in your meditation 20 minutes am pm

September 12th, 2006 at 7:20 pm
HI David, I started last night before bed it helped my reflect on my days activities and tune in to my faith and seek a higher power to refocus and align myself with my vocation in life.
September 12th, 2006 at 8:03 pm
Wow, guess I am late.
Totally have been swept away with the stuff that makes up LIFE. And whilst I haven’t been sitting in meditation, I have been affirming myself and sending myself positive thoughts about where I see my life going. Just that alone has brought so much to us, myself and my family. (you can read my journey on my blog – will have posted in a few days)
I commit from today, though a day late, to spend 10 minutes in the very early morning and/or the night just before I hit the hay to meditation and visualization. I want more from my life and I want to give more from my life to others.
Thanks David for the challenge and the faith.
September 12th, 2006 at 8:43 pm
Thanks to Philip for inviting me to commit myself for this group meditation. I have been telling myself I want to do this everyday and I have yet to “remember” to do it everyday.
Thank you Philip and thanks David.

Brilliant challenge David!
In stillness we find peace and within that space lies the secrets of the universe. Anything we want to create becomes real.

Thanks for the gentle kick in the pants — I’ll join you and see what comes on the other side of 3 months.
September 13th, 2006 at 6:09 am
Meditating, tuning off, just being – whatever. I found that in the 20 minutes just telling my mind that I am still and to be an observer to thoughts as they hurry in the mind and continue out to be real relaxing. To fend off the zzz I think positive thoughts and affirmations. Feeling refreshed and energized I went to work and today I needed my wholeself present as crisis after crisis abounded in the day. However with the mental exercise of the morning-I found and kept my pace with energy and commitment. I really felt that at least I was operating from a higher energy level than usual keeping negativity at bay and findng some interim solutions.
September 13th, 2006 at 7:29 am
Sign me up, baby! Actually, I’ve been meditating about 20 minutes a day for several months now — well, maybe 5 days a week. And what I notice is a lot more guided sense of what I’m supposed to be doing with my business and private life. It’s very helpful for getting through the tough parts, and completely inspiring on the creative parts. I even splurged and bought a great little meditation cushion on line … that made me even more motivated and comfy. Right on DW!
September 13th, 2006 at 7:50 am
What took you so long! I’ve been meditating for. . . a year? more? . . now, and know it’s good for me. Sometimes I’m not so great at it, but sometimes it’s fantastic. I just keep trying. . . .
September 13th, 2006 at 8:48 am
Hi David,
Great idea, and a timely one. I will add the 10 minutes right after my prayers. Here is one of my favourite affirmations gleaned from Norman Vincent Peale’s Power of Positive Thinking book:
I believe I am always divinely guided
I believe I will always take the right turn of the road
I believe that God will make a way, where there is no way.
I believe!
Happy meditating.

I’ve meditated, however, not that consistently. And, i cannot attribute significant change to the meditation. I’m very excited to see what emerges from consistent practice. Thanks,
September 14th, 2006 at 12:16 pm
Reporting meditation last night and this morning – on track. This morning was 24 minutes – a record!
I found thoughts and feelings were appearing in a very clear way – a dream like way. I’m guessing the subconscious is coming more into play. I let them go and return my attention to the breath. But I like it when things come in…perhaps they could be called messages. Some useless, some useful.
How is everyone else going with their meditation?
September 14th, 2006 at 2:38 pm
Hi All
Checking in again. Yesterday morning was rough and I ‘forgot’ to meditate. I really wish I would have as I am sure my day would not have felt so hectic. I made up for it that night. This morning, I remembered!
David, I think I can relate to your dream-like messages. I also enjoy them while they are there and let them go. I silently witness the thoughts/feelings instead of trying to interpret them.
I added “adominal breathing” to my practice. I imagine a point in the lowest part of my belly and breathe into that point, then I exhale completely even to the point of feeling those lower stomach muscles working to push out all of the breath. I have read about this adominal breathing practice and Reg. Ray explains it as the seat of your ego. Reg. Ray also points out that you may notice a quiver when you are pushing out that breath and he explains it as the ego resisting. Reg. Ray says when using this technique we are massaging the ego so it will release control. If anyone is interested in where I got this…. It is a book by Reginald A. Ray called Meditating with the body. Mine happens to be an audio book, so I can put on the headphones and practice the techniques with his instruction.

To meditate means to observe.
Your smile proves it
It proves that you are being gentle with yourself,
that the sun of awareness is shining in you,
that you have control of your situation.
You are yourself,
and you have acquired some peace.
Meditation is Silence Power.

I am with you in this David … and thanks for beginning it! I’ve been meaning to start back to a daily meditation routine, and this was a gentle reminder.

Meditation…..Something my husband and I have talked about doing for years. Well I just did, thanks to your nudge David. I can’t wait for him to get home and take 10 minutes to start as well. Ten minutes just flew by this first time; I think I will try 15-20 minutes tonight. After all, I’m a little behind since today is the 15th.
I’m looking forward to the next three months. Here’s hoping this time brings positive results for all involved.
Live Well. Be Well. Have Fun.

Consider offering the mind to the heart, 1st centering the mind then drawing it down into the heart as a way to go inward for your meditation. Once you’re in your heart, you’ll be able to notice when the mind and ego are attempting to distract or control vs. the offering from your heart and soul.

Hello!
23th of september,I was thinking of…! meditating;now being associated with a group,I’ll just do it right tonight!
Years ago, being seriously ill with severe disabilities;I was astonished how meditation helped me being calm and confident toward life…I was still able to smile inside even if I had to be bedridden for almost 5 years…
Today,my health is improved but even at that time of adversity,I was still able to enjoy life because of the precious help of meditation. It truly made the difference in my life.
I truly recommend it to everyone for a better life whatever your life might be at this present moment.
Meditating is reconnecting to ourselves and it is a real power in our life.
Good meditation to all!
Thank!s to you David Wood for this nice invitation to meditate in association with a group.

Hi guys,
just checking in to say it’s a pleasure to keep this up every day. And about 50% of the nights I’m doing it as a bonus. This morning felt a very nice peace at 12 minutes, and decided to stay another couple of minutes just to enjoy that stillness. Only felt this about three times so far, but it’s a nice start.

September 25th, 2006 at 7:13 pm
Hi David
I am still trying to meditate every day, but its not going to good. I have a good 20 min meditation CD to follow along with, but I still feel like going back to bed/sleep after.
I get up at 5am to help my husband get ready for work. I make his breakfast and pack his lunch. He leaves around 5:45am. My 14y/o has to be up by 6:30 to get ready for school, so I have started trying to meditate during that 45 min between when he leaves and she gets up. I am always sleepy after and its all I can do to not just crawl back into bed. Where is the “rested and refreshed” feeling everyone attributes to meditation?
September 26th, 2006 at 10:09 am
Pennie,
do you need more sleep? Could it be as simple as that?

October 12th, 2006 at 2:36 pm
Quick note to say I’ve kept to it every day. Really quite easy now. Yesterday I listened to a holosync audio for something different – quite pleasant.
Today I had the joy of waking to jack hammers again. I say joy because I’m exploring being with noise. It was so perfect to wake up, meditate for 10 min on the sound of the jack hammer, and then on my breathing, and for a time I didn’t hear the jack hammers (wild!)
I’ve been putting the tv on quietly each night as I go to bed too, to desensitise myself to noise, and have been falling asleep no trouble. Quite exciting really. Time to increase the volume a little
David

Hi. Checking in. My apolgies for the long length of time since my last post. I have a pretty busy morning schedule which was my best time to log in. I have started a yoga class, and I have homework I do each morning. I did do the meditation before the yoga, but I have found that I am much more peaceful after the yoga, and I can feel the ‘energy’ throughout my body. I now feel more connected to my body which seems to help quiet my mind as well.
I will admit I have missed a few mornings here and there on those mornings when things do not go as planned and I would try to make it up at night but sometimes that wouldn’t happen either. Oh well, flexibilty is good!!
David, to discuss having the TV on while sleeping. I have heard or read somewhere and I cannot remember where – but ‘they’ say that the noise of the TV may not produce the most restful sleep. Have you noticed anything? It makes sense to desensitize to the noise. My husband has fallen alseep with the TV on for the nine years we have been together and I personally cannot stand it. it is hard to go to sleep sometimes and when I actually get the chance to sleep without the TV on – I wake up much more refreshed and have even noticed that I am able to focus and concentrate better during the day.
Well… Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi David,
Great to see that there are so many people meditating. What happens after the 3 months? Do you think you will continue with meditation?
What happens really is we become aware and live more and more from this place of peace and awareness.

I have been meaning to start meditating based on my reading of the books by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I will start today and enjoy the idea that I am doing this with so many other wonderful people.

this is perfect as I have talked about doing meditation again for almost a year now…time to just “do it”
I will sit in my rocking chair in my bed room, where there are no distractions for 10 min every day for the next 2 months, from oct. 23 to dec. 2306, how’s that?!!
thanks what a fun idea.
