  1. Beth Strayer Says:

new at this idea of having a website someone would want to go to. . .
getting over the thinking that I have anything anyone would want. . .
and then how to get it to them. . .
still window shopping. . . the whole idea.
But Open to hearing more . . .

  2. Ifrah Says:

I’m sad to rate my email capture as -1 :( Great video though thanks.

  3. David MacDonald Says:

A big Fat Minus10 for me!

  4. Barb Says:

    -10 here also…..
So going back to my previous comment…. I want to learn to create the newsletter, automate it, and update my website w the form.
    Contents is no problem.
Done by next Friday, March 28.

  5. Cynthia Says:

I have something on my site…I feel it’s in a good place. But the it could be better…stronger words that catch peoples attention!
    Thank you David…

  6. Cindy Says:

haha! I had to go look at our website to see! Make that a 0 for us. We have a basic, not so cool website. I don’t take care of the website, since I’m so tech-challenged. But I’m very interested in how to get the word out about our organization (501-c3).

Your video teaching is great, David. I’m really excited about learning more, and, hopefully, applying it as well!

  7. Vikki S. Says:

Yikes! I’d say a 3 or so on the email capture. But today I am currently working on a free download, so this is a timely video.

I’d like to have everything done on my website in 3 weeks or less. I think it’s possible if I go smarter and not harder.

    Thanks David!

  8. Stacy Goldring Says:

My coaching partner and I have been in analysis paralysis for months now with our website and getting it up. We have the list of why nots: undefined niche, technical difficulties, sifting through information to “get it right”, etc. etc. I’d love to have that site up by no later than 1 month from today, April 18th. Until your launch info showed up, I was beginning to loose heart, But now I’m excited and curious all over again-
    Thanks David

  9. Paula Kawal | Journey Inward Says:

I have something like this on my website but not everything on the front page is pushing people toward it. I would rate it at a 6 and will definitely take David’s advice and work on making it more eye catching ;)

    Thanks David!

  10. Barbara Escher Says:

I have a website for my business and have built websites for my clients over the years. The site I built most recently was http://www.eaglecondev.com — lots of free downloads, but based on this video, I can see that they are too hard to find. I need to use the home page more effectively!

  11. Wayne Says:

interesting points but I don’t see this on the top of your website here as well! As a side note also CLEAN sites do much better without all the links…keep the focus one what you want to funnel propective clients into….too many links here on the site make it distracting. IMHO

  12. Tim Says:

I am working with a website designer so I am hoping to not only have it up and running by the end of the month but to also incorporate what I just learned today.

  13. Kellie Frazier Says:

Website rating…5? I can look at it objectively so here is what I think. The message is clear as mud and unexciting, the audio is too long and chatty, the picture is too big and and the capture boxes are at the very bottom after the ‘buy now’ buttons when they should be near the top or on the side. So if I KNOW these things why don’t I change it? Need new web guy and more $ to work with. See if you agree with me!

Thank you for the vids David! There very helpful.

  14. charlotte Says:

ehm… you got me there! And still somehow some people sign up occasionally…. Now I see: form half below the fold, I don’t even say it’s free (even though i promise them a download) – and I don’t state what they get and why that is nice… Work to do and thanks agaion David, I love you!

  15. Joshua Aragon Says:

    Hello Sir!

Well… this is a weak spot for me. I have toyed with a few different methods of grabbing peoples info and directing them to the box on many of my sites and still have a very low rate. So I’d give it a 2 or 3… on my main site I’m currently working on a new method so I’ll take your reference site into mind as I have it designed. The copy is being written right now for the other sites as well, so I’ll update you! Keep em coming!

    Joshua

  16. David Wood Says:

    Hi guys,

thanks for confessing! It takes something to be honest about something like that. And of course it’s an important step towards improvement.

And good catch – I don’t have a form on this blog!!!! Nice one :-)

Keep the comments coming – and I’d like to also hear from people without a website – what kind of timeline are you considering for having one up? 1 month? 1 year? 5 years?

    David

  17. Denise Says:

Hello and thank you, David! Today, I would be a 1 as I am just getting started and do not have a website yet. However, my target date for the website is May 15th.

It goes without saying, your advice will be incorporated and my website will be a 10!

    :-)

  18. Janet Boulter Says:

Confession- my website is horribly out of date. I am in the process of re-branding my logo, etc. and need a complete website overhaul. As a consultant i don’t normally get much response from my website– but your tips are extremely valuable- and I will incorporate them soon. Thanks much!

  19. Ken L. Says:

Hi David and those at Solution Box,
I have two websites which after assessing them, it means I’m in double -trouble! One of my organizations is a 501 and I love helping people..
The other is team-building and products. Stuck in the financial trap at this time to pay someone to restructure . . What do I do? I also need a new website for my next endeavor.. I guess I’ll have to use one of those freebie websites with a link as long as my right arm?? … Unless you have other instructions?. We are all ears, with pen and paper.

Thanks again Dave for the way you serve others with the spirit of excellence!

  20. Mel Says:

Haven’t got a website yet, but very inspired by your ideas. Need to get an idea to have behind that button still. My aim is to have my website up and running by july 2009.

    Thanks.

  21. Sondra Horner Says:

My website is already up and running but right now capturing emails it is a 1. I am actually working on the sign up at the moment so it is active for our first publicity this week.

Thank you for the example sites showing what works and what does not, these were very helpful.

  22. Alistair Says:

No website yet but have plans to have one up within 3 months – just about to start a 12 week website building course – very excited and also interested in what you offer that seems to focus on the consulting role – which is my field. Not yet sure of what to offer that could be THAT compelling but I’m on to it!!!!

  23. Elisa Hammond Says:

So simple. Let me just say that by Friday, I will have a great “freebie” on my page and clean up some website navigation challanges. Thanks for sharing.

  24. Burdette Says:

My web site is a -1. That is why I am interested in your program. At this point I do not know how to build the site myself, and am not sure just paying a few thousand dollars for someone else to do it would get me something that works well. I don’t feel I have enough time available to learn the how to part.

  25. stella Says:

Hmmm initially it looks like I have a few good ways for people to sign up – I’m about about a 5/10, as they could be a bit more front and centre on my home page… thanks for the kick to refine my site from good to great.

I actually think that my issues have been from a lack of traffic getting to my site so yesterday’s video is a great revision for me… I’m good but I’m too quiet about it ;-) OR maybe my niche is not quite my passion!

  26. Scott Says:

I’m in the process of completely redeveloping my site and expect to relaunch within the next week or so. In the meantime, the contact form is just about all that’s there – front and center – so I’ll give myself some points for that. On the downside, what I’m offering at the moment is along the lines of “since you can’t find out about us here right now, use the form to get more info” and access to a demo/prototype of the assessment tool I’m developing for uncovering perceptions and attitudes that are below the surface of conscious awareness that won’t make a lot of sense to those who haven’t already spoken to me – so some points off for that… I guess that brings me back to about 1 or 2.

  27. Karen Goddard Says:

Hi – loved the video, really useful – I think I am about an 7 – I am currently updating my site as I am about to introduce some new products.
My question is: Which movie software do you use? I live in france & the connection is not great so most video clips break up – your didn’t so would be really interested.
    Thanks Karen

  28. Tracey Lloyd Says:

    Hi David,

My confession is that my website email capture is currently a 2 maybe a 3. Thanks for the video – I am just planning a major redesign of the site and hope to have it up and running by 30 June (that’s the project plan anyway) so that I can be fresh for the start of the new Australian financial year!

    Tracey

  29. Ismini Apostoli Says:

    You are absolutely right!

My website is a 1, if that!!

  30. sonya Says:

    hi, my website is zero!
at the moment, I give no reason for any sign up, as I have nothing to offer !!…or maybe I just didn’t think hard enough…big confession there! s

  31. Nikhil Says:

I rate a 5 – I have an opt-in form on my website, but I’m in the process of making it bigger (it will be a 10 when complete!) – at the moment it’s in the sidebar of my webpage, but I’m going to be putting it in the masthead – just a couple more days and the new look site will be up!

  32. Ernie Gonzalez Says:

Just “partnered up” with a relative with website creation experience. Hope to be up and running by April 1st. I will be able to capitalize from it to a much greater effect thanks to your video. Thank you!

Just “partnered up” with a relative with website creation experience. Hope to be up and running by April 1st. I will be able to capitalize from it to a much greater extent thanks to your video. Thank you!

  34. Yvette Says:

I would rate our website at a 2 or 3 – we have a sign in form but very little else and no free offers – the hard part for me is the web-know-how! I would LOVE to offer a free e-course etc., but HOW? Who do I pay to get that up and running? I don’t have the technical expertise myself, but am unsure where to get that help/support and the ability to pay for it … Any ideas?

  35. Angela Says:

Hi David, I would have to rate mine e-news at about a 4 but with the free offer idea and placement idea I bet I will see a change in traffic. I want to start webinars and e-courses to offer the families and youth I work with more access to my services and this free thing may be a great way to build that relationship! Thank you:)

  36. Donna Says:

Aarrgh! I don’t have a website and keep on procrastinating about it. Thanks for the inspiration

  37. David Horowitz Says:

Hi David – great video – short and sweet – thanks!
Our computer consulting website http://www.soundside.biz is fairly pathetic – haven’t updated the layout since we first did in in FrontPage many years ago (uggh!). No email capture at all – I’d have to call that a zero (0).

  38. Russ Says:

    G’day Dave,
This training you are providing is great. i get a great sense of integrity and honesty from you. I like the fact that it isn’t overly scripted so its just you being you. Fantastic.

I must confess to not having a website but will have one up and running by 8th May 2009

Can you suggest any webtools that will make the process quicker without me having to pay thousands of dollars to a web designer?

  39. Jeffrey T. Sooey Says:

I’ve got an email capture guarding my coach training videos here http://www.coachestrainingblog.com.

The problem is on my blog, where we post a daily article, but the opt in boxes are not very compelling. There’s both a side opt in and a ‘slide up’ opt in, but I need to change the copy on the side opt in. My webmaster is working on it right now! http://www.coachestrainingblog.com/becomeacoach

  40. Maiyah Says:

I have a minimal template website with newsletter sign-up.

Frankly, I feel embarassed by its lack of sophistication.

  41. Stanlee Panelle Cox, M.A. Says:

Interesting. Last year I paid $5000 to learn how to build a successful “squeeze page” including email capture, etc. … it was so poor and complex and messy I asked for a refund and had to get a small claims judgment to get a portion back!! I have been overwhelmed about it since. My current website is for my Psychotherapy practice and the field standard … no email capture or any offers except info about my practice, contact and resources. the course previously mentioned killed my coaching site project and progress. Too bad I hadn’t found David first!! I know I can trust him because he freely gives obviously good info all the time. When I recover from this past fiasco I’ll sign up and move ahead again.
