From Drowning to Flying (Entrepreneur Success Story #2)
Drowning to Flying
Jane was about to turn around her business. But she didn’t know it yet.
She suddenly sat upright: “I have no relationship with my husband” she realized.
Jane was drowning in exhaustion. She felt overwhelmed in her business, like she was barely keeping her head above water. Jane needed external results, but she realized she had to start with herself.
She leaned towards me and said, “I don’t even have a relationship with myself. I am a mother and I care for my kids. But who cares for me? I know I don’t.” She turned back towards the window.
I nodded, and jotted down some notes. It was time to get started…
Over the next weeks and months, Jane and I worked on creating space for her to simply breathe. Literally, we would take deep breaths together over skype to get grounded and connected. Then I had Jane plan and participate in a beautiful date with herself. She was skeptical and resistant at first, but a 30 minute date turned into a 5 hour life-affirming reconnection with herself and nature.
One day I told her: “You’re very capable at handling the next challenge. But when do you take time to realize your successes?”
So Jane started a gratitude journal to confront how good things were. And she started verbally appreciating every family member for the changes she was seeing in them, instead of focusing on what she wished was different. Gratitude was transforming Jane’s life.
While we were working on Jane’s life, we also began addressing the professional solutions for her business. “It’s so frustrating finding good staff. No-one is going to do the job as well as I can”, she said. “Rubbish!”, I told her.
We developed a streamlined interview process, allowing Jane to hire 5 new employees. This gave her creative freedom, relieving the stress of holding the weight of the world on her shoulders.
After just three months, Jane’s business has achieved record sales. She is more than halfway to preparing her business for sale, and has reduced her workload by 30%. She has opened up new possibilities with her family, and learned how to love herself.
This is Jane, and it’s a privilege to know her. I am deeply grateful that she allows me into her inner world, allowing me to make such a profound contribution.
