David: Let’s talk about revenue, and I think it fits in really well with this other thing. You said you decided to pursue a loan to open a location and use someone else’s money, but then almost in the next breath you said, ‘I really need to focus on creating more revenue.’ I get nervous when the two of those are put together or when the two of those exist together. Talking really big picture stuff – what I’d like to see for you is that you create revenue, and then you launch into a location to expand an existing revenue stream, or one that you already know is going to be there. So that’s the big picture point. So, let’s say you’re going to launch a location and you do that over the next three months. What’s the worst that could happen? Do a little risk analysis.

David: You’re on the road.
Client: On the road, mate.
David: Good for you. That’s a great perspective, you know? What I wrote down for you in coaching, because you wrote something about trying to win her back and stuff like that, and I don’t know whether to stay in contact, or whatever, we do that in life. We try and make a decision on it, and come up with this executive thing and follow it, and indeed, coaching is a lot about that. However, a wonderful thing to do sometimes is to go in each moment, and not make any decision on it now. But tomorrow, if at 3:00, you feel like calling her and having a chat about what she’s up to, then you can make that decision at that time.
Client: Yeah.
David: If you take a look and think, ‘Do I really want to, or is that just to make me feel a little bit better? Do I need that? Could I take a walk instead?’ You know, it’s whatever you go through, you’ll go through at that point. The next day, or five minutes later, you may feel different.

David: If mama ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy!
Client: Very true!
David: So it’s just smart, and it’ll save you time. Rather than focusing your attention on yourself, focus more of it on her. The other advantage of that is she’s more intuitive. So she’ll know when you need a break; she’ll know when this is right for you; she’ll know when this color’s right for you. She just… Imagine life without women!
Client: It’s true.
David: So she’ll actually help to guide you to places that you wouldn’t go on your own.
Client: True.
David: So you can actually rely on that, but the question you raised is, ‘What’s the limit? What about when I need something?’ What I would suggest – and this is coming straight from a guy in the States who’s developed all this stuff – is 10%. 10% of the time there should be limits. Like ‘No, that’s not okay’ or ‘No, I’m not going to go there. I’m on vacation’ or ‘No, I don’t agree to spending that.’
Client: Got it.
David: That helps in two ways. One way is you get to look after yourself. Like, sometimes you just need some space.
Client: Yeah.
David: Or you need this or you need that – so sometimes you can put the veto in and go, ‘You know what? I need to look after myself on that one.’ The other reason that’s really good is, women need to know that there are limits. In fact, everybody does. If you have absolutely no limits, respect can disappear. Then you’re all wishy-washy, and no one wants a doormat.

David: But can you get that you might – like your little secret, don’t tell anybody – can you get that you might be having perfect weeks and you just don’t know it, like no one told you?
Client: Hmm. Yep.
David: I want you to play with that, and know that when you judge yourself, ‘I’m not having enough, I’m not doing enough,’ that’ll come up all the time. That’s okay. You don’t need to stop that. Just notice that it’s coming up. But I just want you to remember what I said, that you might be having perfect weeks and no one told you.
Client: Hmm.
David: Now, moving on with the stuff that you put down on your form, I want to tell you my perspective on all this, because as a coach I’ve got certain opinions on where you are and what you’ve done. I love it. I think you’re perfectly on track, and I love it. I know that the finances are an issue, and I’m really happy to see that you’ve actually taken action on that, because you could have just left it and kind of just made that another thing for you to bear. But you haven’t done that, so well done on moving forward on it.
The following is an excerpt of an actual transaction between David and a client in Top Coaching Techniques.
David: Well, it might be the hardest, but I just want to find out what was most valuable for you out of what we touched on in this session.
Client: Um, well to not think that I know what’s best for my family.
David: Wow!
Client: Yeah. Listen to what they have to say.
The following is an excerpt of an actual transaction between David and a client in Top Coaching Techniques.
David: So it’s kind of like getting back to little kiddie times, back to five years old, when there really are no agendas. You just, you know, ‘What am I going to do now?’ and everything you do is perfect. Now you don’t have to live like that, and you might find that you resist it every five seconds because you’re like, ‘Now I’ve got to create a problem. I’ve got to create that there’s somewhere else to get to and I’m not there.’
Client: I’ve already got a pretty good list of those.
David: Yeah, you already got that.
Client: I already tell everyone. That’s how I talk, ‘I just have t o get to June. I just have to get to September. I just have to get to December.’
David: Yes, so you’ve played that game for a while. My invitation to you for this week is to play this other game called That’s Something I Made Up, and for this week, ‘I don’t actually have to get anywhere. I give myself permission to play any games I want to play, including sending out flyers.’ It doesn’t mean you can’t be in action. That’s a completely separate conversation. You know, when you’re out for a drive in the country, you can drive fast at times, and you can say, ‘Hey, where is this place on the map? I might go and check that out and have a cup of coffee.’ You can still do stuff if you want. The difference is you don’t have to. It’s all a bonus. You’d actually be taking on that this week where everything you do is perfect, and you actually cannot make a mistake even if you try; the mistake is perfect. That’s a big gift to give yourself, and I don’t know if you want to give yourself that, but do you want to take on that game?
Client: Okay.
